London

Three hours on foot past around 20 of London's landmarks, then Westminster Abbey with your ticket already booked. One thing to be clear about before booking: the guide does not go into the Abbey with you. The walk starts outside the Ritz and goes through Green Park to Buckingham Palace, the official home of the King, with the royal history along the way. On Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays the 10am departure catches the Changing of the Guard, and the guide knows where to stand for it. From there The Mall, then Trafalgar Square with Nelson's Column, the fountains and the National Gallery. Horse Guards Parade with its arch and clock. Whitehall, and Downing Street, where British Prime Ministers have lived and worked since 1735. Parliament Square, with the Palace of Westminster and Big Ben close up, the London Eye and the Churchill statue in view. Westminster Abbey closes the day. A thousand years of history, and the place where every English and British monarch has been crowned since William the Conqueror in 1066. Your entry ticket is pre-booked for after the walk, so the ticket queue is not your problem, and a free audio guide in several languages takes you round at your own pace. Meet outside the Ritz hotel, next to the two red telephone boxes and the two souvenir stands, under one of the Ritz signs. Nearest tube: Green Park. Note that this tour no longer includes stops at the Tower of London, London Bridge or Shakespeare's Globe Theatre.
