Buy the Newgrange Ticket Yourself, and Do It a Month in Advance
Read this part first: entrance tickets for Newgrange are not included and have to be bought by you, online, separately. The operator's advice is to buy them about a month before the tour date, which tells you how quickly the timed slots go. With that done, the day covers three of the oldest things in Ireland. Newgrange is more than 5,500 years old, and going inside the chamber is the closest anyone gets to what its builders were tracking at the solstice. The Hill of Tara was the seat of the high kings of Ireland, pagan and then Christian. It is also, in the older telling, where the good people live. Trim is a heritage town, and Trim Castle is the Anglo-Norman fortress at the middle of it.
