Royal Palace Early Entry, with the Armoury Left to You Afterwards
An early entrance to the Royal Palace, guided, with the queue skipped and the Royal Armoury left for you to walk on your own once the guide has finished. That second part is worth planning for. The Armoury holds the arms and armour of the Spanish crown, including suits made for emperors, and it is a separate room from the state apartments. Groups usually run out of time before they reach it. Here it is the last thing on the ticket and it is yours. The guided part covers the Royal Chapel, the Grand Staircase and the Crown Room, along with the Throne Room and the Banqueting Hall, with the tapestries and furniture that fill them. The palace was the residence of the Spanish monarchy from 1766 to 1931, and it still holds the crown's most important receptions: audiences, state dinners, the signing of agreements. The building is Italian Baroque, and its floor area is roughly double that of Buckingham Palace. The walk out crosses the Armoury Square, where the viewpoint gives the best view over the west side of the city. Check in at the Julià Travel office, two minutes from the palace.

Check in at the office and walk to the Royal Palace with the guide, two minutes away. The queue is skipped. The building is roughly twice the size of Buckingham Palace. It is Italian Baroque, and it was the residence of the Spanish monarchy from 1766 to 1931. It still holds the most important receptions of the crown: audiences, state dinners and the signing of agreements. The route crosses the Armoury Square, takes in the tapestries and the furniture, and follows the guide through the Grand Staircase, the Throne Room and the Banqueting Hall, among others. When the guided part ends you can visit the Royal Armoury on your own. The viewpoint on the Armoury Square is worth the detour.
