Versailles Guided Tour: Hall of Mirrors, Royal Apartments and Gardens
Ratings collected by Tiqets
A guided walk through the palace and the grounds, taking in the architecture from the outside before the rooms explain themselves from within. The Hall of Mirrors is the room everyone comes for, and it earns the attention: the same lavish design language used across the palace, concentrated into one gallery and then doubled by the glass. The Royal Apartments follow, hung with historical art and furnished as the court left them. A guide is what turns that furniture back into a household, because the objects in these rooms were chosen to say something about rank, and the message is invisible without someone to read it out. Outside, the gardens are laid out with the same intent as the interiors. Fountains and sculpture punctuate the planting, and the geometry of the paths is not decorative: it was drawn so the palace would keep appearing at the end of every sightline. The detail is where the history sits. Not in the scale of the place, which is obvious from the courtyard, but in the small decisions the guide points out along the way.
