Straight to the Door, No Guide: the Kiss and What Hangs Around It

Admission to the Upper Belvedere, without a guide. You go to the museum entrance yourself and take the rooms at your own speed, which for a collection this size is not a small advantage. The Belvedere holds art from the Middle Ages to the present. Upstairs, the reason most people come: the Klimt paintings, with The Kiss among them, and rooms of Egon Schiele and Oskar Kokoschka nearby, which is where the Vienna of 1900 stops being a slogan and becomes a set of pictures. The permanent display, Picture this! The Belvedere Collection from Cranach to Lassnig, runs the whole span in one hang. Two temporary exhibitions are on alongside it: CARLONE CONTEMPORARY, herman de vries, 108 pounds of lavender flowers, from 18 March to 13 September 2026; and IN-SIGHT, Johann Baptist Lampi the Elder and the Younger, Overpainted and Uncovered, from 13 May to 11 October 2026.
