Cork

A guided tour of Blarney Castle and Gardens that starts in the village rather than on a coach out of Cork, which changes what fits into it. Admission is included and the tickets are easy-access, so the queue at the gate is not part of the morning. Inside the grounds the guide walks you through the 15th-century castle and the gardens, and up to the stone itself, where the reward for leaning backwards over a parapet is the gift of eloquence, or as it is put locally, the gift of the gab. The village gets its own guided walk, which is the part most Blarney itineraries leave out entirely. The tour finishes at the woollen mills, one of the oldest and largest Irish craft shops in the country. The guide is a local professional, working in English.
