Chambord in Two Hours: Private Guide from Place Saint-Louis to the Gardens

Two hours, one castle, and a guide who is working for your group alone. The tour begins at the entrance to Chambord rather than at a pickup point in another town, which is the practical difference: this is for people who have already got themselves to the château and want someone to open it up for them. Being private means the route bends. A local guide can spend the time where the group's interest actually lies, in the architecture or in the politics or in the forest outside. The building was François I's idea, put up in the 16th century in the middle of woodland, and the guide uses it as a way into a thousand years of French history: Leonardo da Vinci, the Revolution that emptied it, and what has happened to it since. The walk finishes in the French formal gardens. They date from the 18th century and were replanted in 2017, so what you see is a young garden growing into an old plan, with the geometry crisp in a way the original generation never lived to see. The meeting point is the tourist information office on Place Saint-Louis, in Chambord itself.
