Cork

A day around Cork run on stories: Irish wit and old fables, told without much interest in labelling which parts are true. Working that out is left to you. The route takes in Blarney Castle and its gardens, then Cork itself, Kinsale, and the headland beyond it. There may be a pint along the way. The stop that stays with people is the Old Head of Kinsale. It was the last land the captains of the Titanic and the Lusitania saw before their ships went down, in 1912 and 1915.

  1. Cork

Blarney Castle and Gardens first, then Cork city: the English Market, St Fin Barre's Cathedral, and Elizabeth Fort, which gives the panoramic view over the city. Then Kinsale, the food capital of Ireland, with Charles Fort and the town itself, and on to the Old Head of Kinsale, the last land the captains of the Titanic and the Lusitania saw before the sinkings of 1912 and 1915.

  2. Blarney Castle & Gardens

The gardens are worth the walk, and the Blarney Stone is at the top of the castle, said to hand over the gift of the gab.
