Calle de le Rasse, 4536, Venezia
Meet at Calle de le Rasse 4536, 30122 Venezia VE. From St Mark's Square, face the basilica, turn right towards the Doge's Palace, pass the Bridge of Sighs and reach the waterfront, then walk 2 minutes and turn left into Calle de le Rasse. The meeting point is number 4536.
Piazza San Marco
There is more to do in Venice than anyone has time for, which makes queuing the worst possible use of an afternoon. With skip-the-line access to the two buildings nobody leaves without seeing, the Doge's Palace and St Mark's Basilica, the hours go on the history instead of the line.
Palazzo Ducale
The palace was the residence of the Duke of Venice and the seat of the city's courts, which makes it the centre of Venetian history, and for one of the oldest republics in the world that is a considerable amount of history. The visit covers everything open to the public, from the works Tintoretto and Veronese produced to order to the physical evidence of the checks and balances that kept the republic standing for so long. The guide takes the important rooms, reads the frescoes and tells the stories attached to them, which is the right way to end a day on Venice.
Basilica di San Marco
Then St Mark's Square, which Napoleon called the finest drawing room in Europe. Skip-the-line access gets the group straight into St Mark's Basilica rather than into the queue. Eastern architecture and western design are both in this building, which is how it ended up with an onion dome, and the guide takes the frescoes inside. Afterwards, at your own expense, you can climb to the first-floor terraces for the view over the piazza and some time to yourself.
