If Only the Square Shows for Your Date, the Palace Is Sold Out
Tickets for two of Beijing's landmarks, sold three ways. The Forbidden City ticket reserves entry to the palace, and does not include Tian'anmen Square. The Tian'anmen Square ticket covers the square only, and it still means a security check and a queue, so skip it if that does not suit you. The third option covers both in one booking. Each is sold separately, so choose before booking. What you get is an official ticket with guaranteed entry, and no paper and no QR code to manage: you go in on your passport. Two things to know. The Forbidden City is closed on Mondays. And if the only option showing for your date is the Tian'anmen Square ticket, that means the Forbidden City has sold out for that day.

The Palace Museum

The Forbidden City, the Palace Museum, home to 24 emperors. The ticket takes you past the queue and into the courtyards, the halls under their golden roofs, and the gardens behind them.
Tiananmen Square
Tian'anmen Square, the largest public square in the world. The reserved admission gets you onto it, with the National Museum, the Great Hall of the People and the Monument to the People's Heroes around you.
