Four Stops from Lisbon in One Day: Sintra, Pena, Regaleira and Cascais

A day out of Lisbon that takes in four places rather than the usual two: Sintra, the Pena Palace, the Quinta da Regaleira and Cascais on the coast. Sintra and the Quinta da Regaleira are the guided part of the day. Regaleira is the strangest property in Portugal, an estate laid out around symbols and underground passages, and it repays having somebody there to read it. Sintra is the reason all of this exists: a town of palaces in wooded hills above the coast, which is where the Portuguese court went every summer and where every wealthy family in Lisbon followed it.
