Caves in Summer, the Pilsner Cellars in Winter, Eight Guests Either Way

A day out of Prague with a maximum of eight people, and a second stop that changes with the season. Karlštejn is the fixed point: the 14th-century Gothic castle Charles IV built to hold the imperial crown jewels, with a guided tour of the Imperial Residence inside. Private parking near the castle keeps the walk up short. In summer the day continues underground at the Koněprusy Caves, the largest cave system in Bohemia, on a private tour reserved for your group: limestone halls, stalactites, and what the prehistoric settlements down there have left behind. In winter it goes west instead, to the Pilsner Urquell brewery in Plzeň, for the official tour through the old and new brewhouses and the cellars, ending with unfiltered Pilsner Urquell drawn straight from the barrel. Both versions include a sit-down Czech lunch ordered from the menu, with drinks, and a stop at Velká Amerika, the flooded limestone quarry people call the Czech Grand Canyon, seen from the cliffs above the water.
