Loch Ness Cruise, Beauly Priory and Clava Cairns
Ratings collected by Viator and Tripadvisor
InvernessUrquhart Castle seen from the water rather than the car park, and a stop at Beauly that the other Outlander days leave out. The cruise on Loch Ness runs about 30 minutes, weather depending, and takes in the ruins of the 13th-century castle from the loch itself. Beauly comes next, with free time for lunch in the local cafés and Beauly Priory to walk it off. The priory was used in the filming of Outlander, which is why it is on the itinerary at all, and it is worth the walk regardless. The whisky stop is a Highland distillery, where a dram is optional rather than assumed. The afternoon turns serious. Culloden Battlefield comes with the Jacobite rebellions and an account of the battle itself, and Clava Cairns has the burial chambers and standing stones that Outlander readers will recognise. Back in Inverness in the early evening. Meet 15 minutes before departure, across from the Victorian Market entrance, and look for a blue or yellow bus.
