Loch Ness Cruise from Clansman Harbour, with Sonar
Ratings collected by Viator and Tripadvisor
InvernessThis is the boat and nothing else, which is worth knowing before you book: there is no coach from Inverness, and you make your own way to Clansman Harbour. The harbour is 9 miles out of Inverness on the A82, past two other Jacobite points. Park at the Clansman Hotel on the right-hand side and follow the signs down to the water. Arrive 30 minutes before departure to check in for your boarding pass. If you are coming from the Invergordon Cruise Ship Terminal, that is 34 miles away and you will need your own transport. The cruise itself runs an hour on a catamaran, across water that is 20 minutes from the centre of Inverness and among the best known lakes anywhere. The banks are green and steep, and the ruins of Urquhart Castle come into view from the loch, which is the angle the road does not give you. The boat carries sonar, and the crew put it to the obvious use: watching for whatever may be under the hull.

Urquhart Castle
The boat sails towards Urquhart Castle, which stands on the bank of Loch Ness. You pass the old stronghold with the scenery around it, and this is the best photograph of the trip.
Loch Ness
Aboard the catamaran and out onto Loch Ness, through water with scenery and historic landmarks on either side. Keep an eye out for whatever may be under the surface.
