Meet by the Uffizi Exit, Finish Inside Pitti, Keep the Ticket All Day
The last Medici residence in Florence, visited with a small group that goes in through the priority entrance rather than the queue. The guided part follows the family through its own house: Cosimo I at one end, Anna Maria Luisa at the other. She was the Electress Palatine, and the Palatine Gallery takes its name from her. After the Medici the building kept being lived in, and the guide covers that too, from the Habsburg-Lorraine down to the first King of Italy, whose Royal Apartments are still there. The group forms at an office a few steps from the main exit of the Uffizi, and the visit finishes inside the Pitti rather than back where it started.

Palazzo Pitti
The Palazzo Pitti was the last Medici residence in Florence, and what the museum shows is the daily life of the grand ducal family, from Cosimo I down to the last of the line in the early 1700s: Ferdinando, Gian Gastone and Anna Maria Luisa, the Electress Palatine the museum is named for. The families who came after the Medici are here too, the Habsburg-Lorraine and then the first King of Italy, with the Royal Apartments attached. Beyond the state rooms and their political function there is the private collection: paintings, ancient statuary, furniture, Florentine mosaics, and the frescoes on the ceilings and walls. The main sections are the Palatine Gallery, the Royal Apartments, the Gallery of Modern Art, the Treasury of the Grand Dukes and the Museum of Fashion and Costume.
Galleria Palatina in Palazzo Pitti
The Palatine Gallery, inside the Pitti, is the main attraction of the building and runs across 28 rooms on the main floor of the residence. The paintings are largely 16th and 17th century, which puts it among the most important Italian museums of its kind.
