Sintra and Cascais Small Group with the Pena Essential Ticket and Lunch in Colares
A small group day out of Lisbon that covers the mountain, the palace and the coast, with a local guide along for the whole route and nobody in the group doing the driving. The Pena Palace comes with the Essential Ticket, which covers the interior and the park around it. The guide works the park and the terraces, where the context is; the interior you walk at your own speed. That split is deliberate, and it means the rooms are not a queue behind a raised umbrella. There is free time in the historic centre of Sintra for the pastry shops and the streets. Lunch is a proper stop, not a snack in the van: the group pulls off in Colares, a village of vineyards and farmland in the Sintra hills, and eats at a local restaurant. Lunch is not in the tour price. After that the route runs west to Cabo da Roca, the westernmost point of continental Europe, then follows the Atlantic coast road down to Cascais, with a stop at the Boca do Inferno where the sea works its way in under the cliff.

Pass through the breathtaking Serra de Sintra
The road climbs through the Serra de Sintra, a protected landscape of green hills, deep valleys and old rock formations near Lisbon, where the nature, the history and the legends are hard to separate.
Hidden near Sintra’s historic center
The Sabuga Fountain, a quiet 17th-century spot just off the historic centre of Sintra, known for its fresh mineral water and for the local traditions around it. Long tied to stories of healing, it is a calm pause on the route and a small piece of Sintra's heritage.
Castelo dos Mouros
A distant view of the Moorish Castle from the mountain road, its stone walls running along the hills of Sintra. The tour does not visit the castle or stop at its entrance, but the viewpoint is a good place to take in the silhouette and understand what the fortress was for.
Park and National Palace of Pena
The Pena Palace, the landmark of Sintra and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The Essential Ticket is included and covers the palace interior and the park around it. The guide gives the historical context through the park and the terraces; the interior is self-guided, so you set your own pace inside.
Centro Historico de Sintra
A walking stop in the historic centre of Sintra, with time for the streets, the traditional shops and the main squares. Room here to try the local sweets, order a ginjinha and look through the Portuguese craft shops.
During your free time in Sintra’s historic center
In the free time in the centre you can call at Piriquita, a pastry shop open since 1862 and known for travesseiros and queijadas. The stop is optional, and any food or drink is not in the tour price.
Colares
Lunch stop in Colares, a village in the Sintra region of vineyards, farmland and little tourist traffic. Time to eat Portuguese food at a local restaurant, where the menu may run to fresh fish, regional meat dishes and vegetarian options. Lunch is not in the tour price.
Cabo Da Roca
Cabo da Roca, the westernmost point of mainland Portugal and of continental Europe. The cliffs drop straight into the Atlantic here, which is why the place is known as the end of Europe, and why the photographs from it tend to be the ones people keep.
Drive past Guincho Beach
A drive past Guincho Beach, one of the wildest Atlantic beaches in Portugal, with its dunes, its ocean views and its long history with surfing and wind sports. Panoramic drive-by, no scheduled stop.

Boca do Inferno
Boca do Inferno, the Mouth of Hell, named for the rock formation the Atlantic has cut into the cliffs. When the swell runs, the water hits the cavern below and blows back out through the opening, which is the reason this is the piece of the Cascais coast everyone stops at.
Cascais
Cascais is the last stop. Thirty minutes in the town, enough for a short walk through the historic centre, a look at the shops and some time by the bay. The seafront, the light and the unhurried pace here are the reason Cascais works as a closing stop before the drive back to Lisbon.
