Sintra Half Day, the Pena Essential Ticket and the Conical Chimneys of the National Palace
Half a day that stays inside Sintra, with local guides and a small group, and no drive down to the coast to eat into it. The stops are chosen rather than collected: the known landmarks, the viewpoints, the monuments, and some places in the surrounding area that the full-day routes drive straight past. There is time for the traditional pastries and for the cherry liqueur the town is known for. The Pena Palace comes with the Essential Ticket, which covers the interior and the park. The guide handles the park and the terraces; inside, you walk it at your own pace. Pena is one of the most visited monuments in Portugal and part of the UNESCO World Heritage site that covers the whole of the Sintra hills. The colour is the first thing anyone notices, then the corners the crowd walks past, then the view from the terraces. The National Palace of Sintra, down in the town, is seen from outside, its two conical chimneys visible from most of the historic centre.

Pass through the breathtaking Serra de Sintra
The route crosses the Serra de Sintra, the protected range near Lisbon, with green hills, deep valleys and rock formations that predate everything built on them. Nature, history and legend are tangled together here.
Hidden near Sintra’s historic center
Just off the historic centre, the Sabuga Fountain has been running since the 17th century. The water is fresh and mineral rich, and there are local traditions attached to it, along with old stories about healing and wellbeing. A quiet stop, and a piece of Sintra most visitors never find.
Castelo dos Mouros
The Moorish Castle seen at a distance from the mountain road, its walls running along the ridge above Sintra. There is no visit and no stop at the entrance, but the viewpoint gives the silhouette and the strategic sense of why the fortress was put there.
Park and National Palace of Pena
The Pena Palace, the landmark everyone comes to Sintra for, and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The Essential Ticket is included: interior and park. The guide covers the history out in the park and on the terraces. The interior is self-guided, so nobody is waiting for the group to catch up.
Centro Historico de Sintra
A walking stop in the historic centre, with time for the streets, the old shops and the main squares. The village pace is the point here, along with the local sweets, a ginjinha and the artisan shops.
During your free time in Sintra’s historic center
Piriquita is there in the free time if you want it, a pastry shop trading since 1862 and known for travesseiros and queijadas. Optional stop, and food and drink are not in the tour price.
Sintra National Palace
The National Palace of Sintra from the outside, the royal landmark that sits in the middle of the historic centre and is recognised by its two conical chimneys. Exterior only, with no interior visit and no tickets included.
