The Boat Across Kunming Lake, and Only Between April and October
Three of Beijing's largest sites in one private day: Tian'anmen Square, the Forbidden City and the Summer Palace, walked with a guide rather than glimpsed from a coach window. What is included is the whole day: every entrance fee, a private car with driver, hotel pickup and drop-off, all the transfers between sites, and lunch at a local Chinese restaurant. The part that depends on the calendar is the boat. Between 1 April and 30 October you cross Kunming Lake at the Summer Palace by water, which is how the court moved around it, and you leave the park by a different gate from the one you came in by.

Tiananmen Square
Morning pickup from your hotel in central Beijing, and the day starts at Tian'anmen Square, the largest public square in the world, with time to walk round the buildings on it.
The Palace Museum
Then a couple of hours in the Forbidden City with the guide, on the architecture and the history. The Palace Museum, Gu Gong in Chinese, stands at the centre of Beijing and was the imperial palace of 24 emperors across the Ming and the Qing (1368-1911). There is also an option to buy the entrance ticket alone and enter on your passport.
Summer Palace
After lunch, the Summer Palace, the largest and best preserved royal park in China, and the reference point for Chinese garden design ever since; it is often called the museum of royal gardens. Between 1 April and 30 October you can take the boat across Kunming Lake, getting off at the south-facing island and leaving the park by another exit. There is also an option to buy the entrance ticket alone: the operator sends a QR code in advance to scan at the gate.
