Twenty-Six Kings Crowned in St Vitus, and Daliborka Was the Dungeon
Three hours through Prague Castle with a private guide, and the entrance fee included. The complex is the largest of its kind in the world and works as a town inside a town, which is why three hours with someone who knows the order of it beats a day of wandering. St Vitus Cathedral is the centre of it: 26 kings of Bohemia were crowned there, and most of the Czech kings were married and buried there too. Then the Old Royal Palace, home to generations of them, with Vladislav Hall; St George's Basilica, one of the oldest churches in the country, from the 10th century; and the Golden Lane, where the houses show how people actually lived in different periods. This route also takes in what the shorter tours leave out. The Daliborka tower was one of the harshest prisons in medieval Bohemia, a dungeon and a torture chamber. The Lobkowicz Palace is still the family's, and holds their art collection. The Matthias Gate is the main entrance, and the Rosenberg Palace stands along the way. The walk usually finishes at Klárov, unless you ask otherwise.
