Two Hours in the Doge's Palace Alone, from the Giants' Staircase to the Prisons
Two hours on the Doge's Palace and nothing else, which is the argument for it: no basilica to rush through, and time enough to take the building apart. The queue at the main entrance is skipped. Inside, the public chambers, and the history of what was decided in them. The Renaissance paintings by Tintoretto and Veronese are here, and so is the other half of the story: the rulers of Venice, their secret service, and what both were prepared to do. The tour ends where the palace ends, across the Bridge of Sighs and into the New Prisons.
