The Fifteenth-Century Znaim Altarpiece Shares This Ticket with Klimt
Ratings collected by Tiqets
Admission to the Upper Belvedere. The complex is two buildings, Upper and Lower, with the formal gardens laid out between them; this ticket covers the upper one. Most people book it for the Klimt rooms, and reasonably so: the collection is the leading one anywhere and The Kiss is in it. The rest of the ticket is worth knowing about before you arrive, or it goes past unnoticed. The permanent displays cover the history of the palace itself, the medieval holdings, which include the 15th-century Znaim Altarpiece, and a substantial run of 19th and 20th-century painting. The medieval rooms are usually the quietest in the building, which is an argument for starting there and working forward rather than going straight up to the gold. The booking can be cancelled free of charge up to the start of the time slot.
