Outlander by Minibus: Wardlaw Mausoleum and the Highland Cows
Two stops here that no other Outlander day includes: the Wardlaw Mausoleum, burial place of the Fraser of Lovat chiefs, and a farm where the Highland cows have names. The guide is a Highlander by birth and fully qualified, the minibus seats 16, and departures start at 9am to get the most out of the daylight. The route runs south to Culloden Battlefield and Clava Cairns, then Cawdor Castle, with Urquhart Castle standing in when Cawdor is closed, and on to Loch Ness. Wardlaw Mausoleum was completed in 1634, when the Fraser of Lovat chiefs stopped burying their dead at Beauly Abbey, and Simon 'the fox' Fraser is the name to know there. Beauly Priory is a ruined 13th-century Valliscaulian monastery, and the place where Claire met the Frasers' seer. The cows are at Robertson's near Beauly: Heather, Katie-Morag and Jamie, with a farm shop attached. One practical note. Some of these tours are not wheelchair friendly, though the operator will try to accommodate. Luggage space is limited, so notice is required in advance if you are bringing walking aids or a pushchair. You will not miss Avril's blue minibus at the meeting point.

Clava Cairns
Dare you touch the stones? The insurance does not cover you if you end up in 1746. These are the stones where Outlander begins, and at over 4,000 years old they have stories of their own.
Culloden Battlefield
Highland life changed for good on this field on 16 April 1746, in the last pitched battle fought between Hanoverian soldiers and the Jacobites. The guiding here is done on the ground itself.

Urquhart Castle
The site goes back to the 6th century, and the castle was first built in the Middle Ages. Urquhart Castle went up in the 13th century and played a key part in the Wars of Scottish Independence. It is a ruin now, in a prime position on Loch Ness for anyone hoping to spot Nessie.

A stop on the banks of Loch Ness, in Nessie's home water. You may even meet a famous Nessie hunter.
Wardlaw Mausoleum
Completed in 1634 as the burial place of the Clan Fraser of Lovat chiefs, after they stopped using Beauly Abbey as their burial ground. Simon 'the fox' Fraser is here, or so the story goes.
Beauly Priory
Beauly Priory is the town's best known historical site, a ruined 13th-century Valliscaulian monastery. This is where Claire met the Frasers' seer, and Beauly is home to the original Simon 'the fox' Fraser.
