Versailles Guided, Then Giverny with an Audio App
Ratings collected by Viator and Tripadvisor
ParisTwo estates that have almost nothing in common, taken in one day by private coach: the baroque scale of Versailles in the morning, Monet's garden at Giverny in the afternoon. The split matters. Versailles is guided, with skip-the-line entry and an expert leading you through the Royal Apartments and the Hall of Mirrors, with the court of Louis XIV explained as you go, followed by free time in the gardens. Giverny is not guided on site: the coach ride there covers Monet's life and work, then you go round the house and grounds independently with a self-guided audio app. At Giverny you walk through the house itself, the flower gardens, and over the Japanese bridge above the water lily ponds that produced the paintings everyone knows. One thing that makes this year particular: 2026 is the hundredth anniversary of Monet's death. The coach is air conditioned. Meet at Place du Général Kœnig, 75017 Paris, and the day ends at Porte Maillot.

16 Pl. du Général Kœnig, Paris
Meet at Place du Général Kœnig, 75017 Paris, beside the church at the intersection of the Boulevard d'Aurelle de Paladines and the Avenue de la Porte des Ternes. The City Wonders representative, holding a City Wonders sign, will be standing on the right side as you face the church.
Palace of Versailles
Out of Paris by air-conditioned coach to the Palace of Versailles. Skip-the-line entry and an expert guide take you through one of the best known palaces in the world and the stories of the French royal family. The route covers the Hall of Mirrors and the Royal Apartments, with the power, the luxury and the intrigue of the court of Louis XIV, the Sun King, told along the way. It is a good deal more than you would get from the rooms on your own.
Jardins du Chateau de Versailles
After the guided part of the palace, there is free time in the Gardens of Versailles at your own pace. The pathways are tree-lined, the fountains and sculptures are everywhere, and the long views are what made the estate the envy of Europe. You can walk out along the Grand Canal or simply sit for a while.
Fondation Claude Monet
In the afternoon the day changes character, out into the countryside to Giverny, Claude Monet's home. On the drive your guide covers Monet's life, how he worked, and what he left behind. On arrival there is a short introduction, then you explore the estate independently with a self-guided audio app. Inside is the house itself; outside, the flower gardens and the Japanese bridge over the water lily ponds that produced some of the best known paintings in the world. Standing there, the connection between the place and the canvases is obvious. Special note: 2026 marks the hundredth anniversary of Claude Monet's death, which makes this a particular year to see the village he worked in.
