Versailles Guided with a Train Option or an Express On-Site Tour

ParisThree versions of the same visit, and the choice is about how you get there. Take the round trip by train from Paris with a standard group, do the same in a small group, or book the Express and meet the guide at the palace gates with no transport included; the Express runs about two hours and does not bring you back. The guided part is identical. Timed-entry tickets get you inside without queuing, and the route goes through the state apartments, the Royal Chapel and the Princess' Apartments before reaching the Hall of Mirrors, then the King's State Apartments, with the politics behind each room explained as you go. The guide then walks you to the garden entrance, introduces the parterres, the fountains and the groves, and stops there. The rest of the estate is yours: the gardens at your own pace and, if you have the legs for it, the Trianon Estate. A golf cart can be hired or a ticket bought for the garden mini train if you would rather not walk it. With the train versions the return ticket is already arranged, and you can either head back with the group or stay on in Versailles.

Meet your expert guide at a central Paris metro stop, then take the train out to Versailles, roughly 30 minutes each way. A short walk from the station brings you to the palace gates. (The Express option meets directly at the Palace of Versailles and does not include transport from Paris.)
Palace of Versailles
Inside with timed-entry tickets, following your guide through the state apartments and the workings of the Bourbon court. The Royal Chapel and the Princess' Apartments are on the route. The tour builds to the Hall of Mirrors, the gallery lined with mirrors and chandeliers, then the King's State Apartments and the political symbolism built into each room.
Jardins du Chateau de Versailles
Your guide takes you to the garden entrance and introduces the geometric parterres, the fountains and the groves. The guided part ends there. From that point the estate is yours, at your own pace, including the walk out to the Trianon Estate, before you return to Paris on the train ticket already arranged. A golf cart can be hired, or a ticket bought for the garden mini train, if you would rather cover the ground more easily. (The Express option runs about 2 hours and does not include return transport.)
Place d'Armes, Versailles
Once the tour ends you can either stay on and explore Versailles at your own pace or return to Paris.
