Braga and Guimarães Door to Door, with the Santa Bárbara Garden
Two historic cities in one day, in a small group, with the collection made at your accommodation in central Porto rather than at a meeting point. Braga comes first, a city built on religion: the oldest cathedral in Portugal, and the Bom Jesus sanctuary above the city, UNESCO listed, Baroque, with the view that comes with the altitude. The walk through the historic centre includes the Santa Bárbara Garden, which most day trips drive past. Then a traditional lunch of the region. Guimarães is the afternoon, and it is where Portugal started. The 10th-century castle, the Palace of the Bragança Dukes and the church of São Miguel. The walk covers Martins Sarmento square, the City Hall and the Senhora da Oliveira church, in a medieval centre that is a UNESCO World Heritage site in its own right.
