Braga Cathedral's High Choir and Chapels, with Lunch and Vinho Verde
Two cities in a day from Porto, in an air-conditioned van, with a pickup at your hotel: Braga for the baroque, Guimarães for the founding of the country. The day starts at the Bom Jesus sanctuary, with the staircase and the view from the top of it. Then Braga Cathedral, the oldest in Portugal, and this is where the day separates itself: the visit includes the chapels and the high choir, which most groups never get into. Lunch is a real one, at a local restaurant, with the Vinho Verde the region is known for. The afternoon is Guimarães: a walk through the medieval city, the castle where Portugal began, and the Palace of the Dukes, which is what royal life looked like when it was still being invented. There is time at the end for the city centre.
