Braga's Banana and Banano, the Lift Ride In, and Guimarães First
The north of Portugal is green, and it is also history, tradition and a working modern region. The Minho is the river that closes the country at the top, and it is also the land of a wine that is only green in name and that nobody forgets afterwards. Guimarães is where this starts. A World Heritage city since 2001, with the castle that stands for the founding of Portugal, and streets that carry the history without needing a plaque. Braga follows, with its Cathedral, the Romans underneath it and a busy modern city on top. Then up to Bom Jesus, with the chapels and the gardens, and the ride on the hydraulic lift included. The stop that separates this day from every other one is smaller: a banana and a glass of muscat, which the people of Braga call a banano and repeat at least once a year. Both are included.
