Do Not Go Into the Palace: the Group Center Is on the Other Side
A guided tour of Schönbrunn with entry past the ticket line, covering 22 state rooms and then the gardens. Start with the meeting point, because it is the part people get wrong. Take the U4 to Schönbrunn station and walk three minutes to the Group Center, which stands before the palace, on the opposite side from the entrance. Do not go into the palace itself. The guide waits in front of the Group Center holding a sign. Be there ten minutes early: anyone arriving after the start is marked a no-show and no refund follows. Inside, the licensed guide takes the group through 22 state rooms, the Great Gallery and the Hall of Ceremonies among them, with Maria Theresa and the daily business of an imperial household as the thread. The gardens come after, with the statues, the fountains, the Roman Ruins and the Gloriette above the Vienna woods. The tour ends there, and you can stay on and walk them at your own pace.
