Prague

A private half day from Prague to Karlštejn, with the admission to the Imperial Residence of Charles IV tour included in the price. The guide collects you from your hotel or any address in Prague, and hands over a bottle of water and some local snacks before the car pulls away, which is a small thing that says how the rest of the day is run. The drive crosses the Bohemian Karst protected area, through forest, past limestone cliffs and villages, and ends in Karlštejn village, with a short walk up to the castle. Inside, the private guide takes the historic core of the fortress: Charles IV, the crown jewels of the Holy Roman Empire, and the symbolism built into the fabric of the place, which is denser here than in almost any other Czech castle. It is the most visited castle in the country and has been standing since the 14th century. Several guided routes exist inside; the ticket is covered. Lunch afterwards is at a local restaurant in the village, cooked from regional ingredients, and it is not included in the price. At the end you choose where to be dropped: your hotel, a museum, or wherever you want to carry on.
