Meet your guide outside the western exit of Tower Hill tube station, near Trinity Square, the Citizen M Hotel and the 'Tower Hill Tram' burger van. Your guide holds a flagpole with a Union Jack flying from it.

Southwark Cathedral has looked exactly as you see it since 1420, though a place of worship has stood here since the year 606. A number of historical figures are buried inside, and in the 1550s the cathedral was used for heresy trials by 'Bloody Mary', the daughter of Henry VIII.

Winchester Palace

The ruins of 12th-century Winchester Palace, once one of medieval London's most important and spectacular buildings. Kings and queens stayed here, it stood at the centre of the notorious Liberty of the Clink, and the country's oldest prison is part of it.
