Alfama Guided with Coffee and Pastries In, the Castle on Your Own After

Museu do Fado
The walk starts outside the Museu do Fado. The building was a water pumping station in the 19th century and now holds the museum of the music Portugal is known for. The facade carries that change on it, from industrial plant to cultural institution, which is a fair introduction to a city that has done the same thing to itself several times.
Panteao Nacional
Then the Panteão Nacional from outside. The 17th-century building was originally the Igreja de Santa Engrácia, and the Baroque work on it is worth the stop on its own. The guide covers how a church became a national pantheon and who is buried in it. Also the best photograph on this stretch of the route.
Igreja de Sao Vicente de Fora
The Igreja e Mosteiro de São Vicente de Fora, a piece of Mannerist architecture founded by the first king of Portugal. The facade is the draw, and the history behind it is the Braganza monarchs who lie inside and the work that went into building the place. This is the stop for anyone who came for the royal history rather than the views.
Take a well-timed break at Quase Café
A break at the Quase Café, a local place, for typical Lisbon pastries with a coffee or a tea. It sits at about the right point in the walk, and it is a chance to sit down among people who are here every day rather than for the afternoon. The coffee, the tea and the pastries are all included.
Miradouro de Santa Luzia
The Miradouro de Santa Luzia is one of the best viewpoints in Lisbon, over Alfama and the Tagus behind it. The guide points out the landmarks, which is what turns a view into a map. It is also where most people's photographs of this walk come from.
Castelo De Sao Jorge
The walk ends with entry to the Castelo de São Jorge. The hill has been fortified and refortified for a very long time, and the castle watched Portuguese royalty rise and fall from it. The battlements are walkable, and the view over Lisbon from them is the one the kings had. The entry ticket is included, so there is nothing left to arrange.
