Vienna

Two hours at Schönbrunn, the summer residence of the Habsburgs, with a live guide and entry past the ticket queue. The route through the state rooms is the highlights tour, and it can only be booked with a guide in person, which is the reason to take this one rather than a plain ticket. Headsets are handed out, so the commentary carries even in the crowded rooms. The baroque gardens behind the palace are covered too, either before going in or afterwards, depending on how the timings fall. Schönbrunn is a World Heritage Site and one of the most visited places in Austria. The practical part matters here. The group meets at the Ehrenhofbrunnen, the first fountain on the right once you are through the big black gate, and the guide carries a green umbrella. Be there ten to fifteen minutes early: the voucher is valid only for the date and time printed on it, and no refund is given to anyone who arrives late or not at all. The tour ends at the museum shop, and you are free to stay on in the grounds afterwards.
