Four Architectures in One Temple, and the Jade Stop Is Declared

Lama Temple (Yonghegong)
The Yonghe Lamasery, one of the great temples of the region. The building itself carries four traditions at once, Han, Mongol, Manchu and Tibetan, and inside stands the 60-foot Maitreya Buddha, carved from a single sandalwood trunk.
Summer Palace
The Summer Palace, the emperors' retreat, in use for eight centuries. The Empress Dowager Cixi had the estate rebuilt in the 19th century, and the man-made lake you see now dates from that work. Beyond the palace buildings there is the park, which is one of the places Beijing actually goes. After that, the pandas.
