Pandas at Breakfast, and Lunch Only If You Book the Full Package
A full day with a private local guide: the giant pandas, the Summer Palace, the old hutongs and the Temple of Heaven. The order is deliberate. The Panda House comes first because the morning is when the pandas eat, and a panda eating is a different animal from a panda asleep. One note on the calendar: the Temple of Heaven closes every Monday. On Monday departures the itinerary substitutes the Yonghe Temple, the Lama Temple, instead. And one on the price: on the standard tour lunch is at your own expense; on the all-inclusive package it is covered.

Regent Beijing, 99 Jin Bao Jie, Dong Cheng Qu
Bring your passport and meet at the main entrance of the Regent Hotel Wangfujing (王府井丽晶饭店), on time. By taxi: Regent Beijing Hotel, 99 Jinbao Street, near Wangfujing (北京王府井金宝街99号). By subway: line 5 to Dengshikou station, exit C, then 50 metres, about a minute, to the hotel entrance.
Beijing
Meet the private guide at your hotel or the agreed meeting point at the scheduled time, then on to the Panda House in Xicheng District to see the giant pandas at close range. In the morning you can watch them having breakfast.
Summer Palace
Then the Summer Palace, the imperial garden of the Chinese royal family, with over 3,000 rooms across it: pavilions, bridges, the long corridors and the temples. The guide fills in the history as you walk.
Wudaoying Hutong
A walk through the old hutongs: narrow lanes of courtyard houses, and the guide explaining how the alleys work and what has kept them going for a century and more. Lunch is in the hutong area, with a wide choice of local food and snacks, and enough free time to eat properly. On the standard tour lunch is at your own expense; on the all-inclusive package it is covered by the tour price.
Temple of Heaven
Then the Temple of Heaven, where the emperors held the great ceremonies to worship heaven and pray for the harvest. The buildings are the reason to come; the park around them, full of people doing tai chi, singing and dancing, is why people stay. If your date falls on a Monday, when the Temple of Heaven is closed, the day goes to the Lama Temple instead: a Tibetan Buddhist temple with a long history, its halls, its Buddha figures and the working religious life inside it.
Beijing
At the end of the day the driver takes you back to your starting point, or to any hotel downtown you name.
