Three Hours in One Garden: the Corridor, the Island, the Tower
Half a day given to the Summer Palace alone, with the ticket booked in advance so the entry queue is not part of it. The advantage of not combining it with anything else is the time: three hours is enough to walk the emperor's garden properly rather than photograph the front of it. The route takes in Longevity Hill, South Lake Island and Suzhou Street. The guide covers where all of it came from, which is the difference between a park and a palace.

Summer Palace
An English-speaking guide and a car or van collect you from your hotel, at 8:30 am or 1:30 pm; say which when you book. Then the Summer Palace, the largest surviving imperial garden in China, in the north-west of Beijing, with about 3 hours there. The visit covers all three parts of it: the political quarter, the living quarters and the garden itself. That means the longest corridor in the world, South Lake Island, the climb up to the Tower of Buddhist Incense, and the shops on Suzhou Street. Drop-off at your hotel or apartment at the end.
