The Glassworks First, the Castle After Lunch, and a Factory Shop
A private day out of Prague that starts with the glass and finishes with the castle, which is the sensible order: the glassworks runs to factory hours, the castle does not close early. The car, air-conditioned, takes you to Nižbor, where Czech cut crystal is made. The guided tour follows the process step by step, through the traditional techniques still used, and ends at the factory shop, where the same glassware costs what it costs at the works rather than in a Prague window. Lunch is traditional Czech cooking, at a restaurant directly below Karlštejn. Then the castle itself, with a guide. Charles IV founded it in 1348 to hold the crown jewels and the relics of the Holy Roman Empire, and it is among the most visited monuments in the country. The driver on the private transfer speaks English and is happy to answer questions along the way.
