Tower of London Beefeater Audience at the King's House
The fifteen minutes that give this tour its name happen at the King's House, an area of the Tower closed to regular visitors. A Yeoman Warder is there and nobody else: questions, royal gossip, and a photograph with one of the Tower's guardians. Before that, timed entry gets you past the ticket queues, and a guide takes the fortress in order. Traitors' Gate, the stone waterway where condemned prisoners, Anne Boleyn among them, arrived by boat. Tower Green, where two of Henry VIII's wives were executed. The Bloody Tower from the outside, where two young princes disappeared in 1483. The Jewel House, entered on your own after the guide has pointed out what matters: the coronation crowns, the ceremonial swords, the Cullinan diamonds, all still used by the monarchy. The tour finishes at the White Tower, built by William the Conqueror in 1078, with the royal armour collection and the medieval chapel left for you to see at your own pace. There is a shorter option. The Express covers the guided tour and Crown Jewels access in 90 minutes, but without the Beefeater meeting, which is the reason most people book this one. Arrive 10 minutes early.
