Lisbon

A private electric tuk-tuk, two hours, and a local storyteller running the Portuguese Age of Discovery from the seat in front. The route starts in the middle of downtown Lisbon and heads west along the river to Belém, where the Belém Tower, the Discoveries Monument and the Jerónimos Monastery are all within a few hundred metres of each other. Belém is where the old and the new sit closest together in this city, and the tuk-tuk gets between them without the walk and without the parking. At the end the driver drops you at the most famous custard tart bakery in Belém, which is not included but is the reason most people are there, and then it is back to the starting point.

What's included

  • Free meeting point and hotel pick-up in the city center
  • Eco-friendly transportation in a 3-wheel electric Tuk Tuk
  • Liability and personal accident insurance
  • Private tour with a dedicated guide-driver (storyteller)

  1. Praca do Comercio

Comércio Square was the centrepiece of the rebuilding after the 1755 earthquake had reduced Lisbon to rubble. It faces the river, which is the best position in the city, and it is both the most popular square in Lisbon and one of the largest in Europe.

  2. Baixa de Lisboa

The Baixa is the part of Lisbon everyone wants to be in: artists, bohemians and the avant-garde, and the working centre of the capital.

  3. Was once a sordid quarter where brothels sidled up to…

A quarter that used to run to brothels and sweaty clubs and then turned into the liveliest neighbourhood in the city, with live music, burlesque and the best of the tapas bars and restaurants.

  4. Alcantara-Mar

Under the 25th of April Bridge, on the river between Alcântara, Baixa and Belém, is one of the places the city goes to do nothing.

  5. Ponte 25 de Abril

One of the emblems of Lisbon. A steel suspension bridge over the Tagus, and the comparison with the Golden Gate in San Francisco is made every single time.

  6. Jeronimos Monastery

Seen from the outside, or from the inside if you buy the ticket.

  7. Padrao Dos Descobrimentos

The Belém quarter is the monumental district of the Age of Discovery: World Heritage monuments, parks, gardens and the Tagus behind all of it. Portugal was one of the largest nations on earth for centuries, and this is the port it sailed from. The route takes in the Oriente Foundation, the Jerónimos Monastery, the Champalimaud Foundation, the Belém Tower, the Monument to the Discoveries, the Electricity Museum and the MAAT.

  8. Torre de Belem

The Tower of Belém was built on the north bank of the Tagus between 1514 and 1520, and it is one of the architectural jewels of the reign of King Manuel I.
