Nevermore's Exterior Is Here; the Interiors Were Shot in Bucharest
Three castles from Brașov in a group of no more than seven: Peleș, Bran and Cantacuzino, with the Sinaia monastery added, which is where the Orthodox part of the day comes in. The travelling is done in a chauffeured Mercedes van with leather seats and wi-fi, picked up at your hotel, rather than on a coach. The operator handles the tickets, and skip-the-line entry is available. One thing worth knowing if you are coming for Wednesday: Cantacuzino is the building that plays Nevermore Academy from the outside, but a good deal of the series was filmed elsewhere in Romania, mostly around Bucharest. What you see here is the exterior everyone recognises.

Peles Castle
Peleș Castle, the summer residence of the Romanian royal family, built in the 19th century for Carol I, the first king of Romania, largely in German Renaissance style. It has 160 rooms and 30 bathrooms, and the woodwork, by Bernhard Ludwig of Vienna, is what people remember.

Bran Castle
Bran Castle, known as Dracula's castle, built in the 14th century and made famous by the Irish writer Bram Stoker. It is Gothic, and it stands on a rock in the valley, put there to watch the border and hold the way into Transylvania. High walls, cold towers, and rooms that keep their own counsel.

Cantacuzino Castle
When Netflix needed a building to stand in for Nevermore Academy in Wednesday, they used Cantacuzino Castle, in the mountain town of Bușteni. The rest of the series is scattered across Romania. The Nevermore interiors, including principal Larissa Weems's office and the mezzanine beside it, were filmed at Monteoru House in Bucharest. The abandoned Gates house was the Olga Greceanu mansion, about 30 miles from the capital. The biology laboratory was shot at the botanical garden in Bucharest, and the opening section at the Polytechnic University there. Cantacuzino itself was built between 1906 and 1911 by Prince Gheorghe Grigore Cantacuzino, in the neo-Romanian style.
