Buy the Ticket for All Three Floors of Peleș, Not Just the Ground One
A private day out of Brașov with a local guide: Peleș, Bran and Cantacuzino, with hotel pickup and a car for your party alone. Being private means the day bends. You stay longer where it is worth staying, stop for photographs where the road offers them, and eat where you feel like eating. The useful thing the guide brings is knowing what to buy. At Peleș the ticket comes in versions, and most visitors leave having seen only part of the castle. Cantacuzino, which played Nevermore Academy in Netflix's Wednesday, is the third stop, with the Carpathians behind it.

Peles Castle
First stop is Peleș Castle, at the mountain resort of Sinaia, built in the late 19th century as the summer residence of the Romanian royal family and among the best preserved castles in Europe. The advice here is worth taking: buy the ticket that covers all three levels, the ground floor, the royal apartments and the guest apartments. Many tours only take in the first, and the rest of the castle is where the reception hall, the royal bedrooms, the ladies-in-waiting apartments and the art and sculpture galleries are. The entrance fee is paid per person on site.

Cantacuzino Castle
After Peleș, Cantacuzino Castle, now widely known as the Wednesday castle after Netflix filmed the series there in 2021. It is built in the neo-Romanian style and it is one of the great aristocratic houses of the country. Prince Gheorghe Grigore Cantacuzino, then among the richest men in Romania, commissioned it as a residence to rival Carol I's Peleș, which is the fact that explains the building.

Bran Castle
Then Bran Castle, known as Dracula's castle, and the guide's subject here is Vlad the Impaler and the legends the place has collected. The rooms, the passages and the stories that go with them. Afterwards the guide can point you to his father's restaurant, out near the forest, a traditional place he rates as the best in Râșnov. Or you can simply ask him about the rest of the country. The entrance fee at Bran is paid per person on site.
