A day out of Munich to Neuschwanstein and Linderhof, both part of the UNESCO World Heritage listing that covers the palaces of Ludwig II. Neuschwanstein is the one Disney used for the Sleeping Beauty castle, and it sits in a quiet stretch of Bavarian countryside that has nothing else in it. Linderhof is the second half of the day. What the two together give you is the measure of the king: what he had to spend, and how completely uninterested he was in restraint. One thing to weigh before booking: this ticket cannot be cancelled or refunded.
