Shuttle Up, Walk Across, Carriage Down, and the Church in the Meadow
A private day in the Bavarian heartland with skip-the-line entry, so no part of it goes on booking, queuing or working out which turning to take. The route covers Neuschwanstein, the village of Oberammergau and the Wieskirche, with a local guide. What makes the castle half of it different is how you approach it: the shuttle takes you up to Mary's Bridge first, for the view, and then you walk across to the castle rather than climbing to it. Coming down, there is a horse carriage back to the village. One honest note: inside the castle, entry is run as a group tour. That is the castle's own rule and applies to everyone, however you arrive. One more before booking: all sales are final and cancellations are not refunded.

Schloss Neuschwanstein
The private guide picks you up at your hotel, and the first drive is to Neuschwanstein, the castle Disney borrowed for its own. With skip-the-line entry there is no waiting for hours at the ticket office, and no arriving to find the tours are sold out. At Hohenschwangau village the shuttle takes the group up to the Marienbrücke first, for the photographs, and the walk to Neuschwanstein follows, with a tour inside. The subject is Ludwig II, the Swan King, king of Bavaria from 1864 to 1886, and the castle he built between 1869 and 1886. Entry is run as a group tour, which is the castle's policy. From the foot of the castle a horse carriage takes you back down to the village. Note: in the winter months the Marienbrücke is closed, for snow and safety.

Next is the Wieskirche, the church in the meadow, one of the best-known buildings of the Rococo.
Later
Then the village of Oberammergau, where the Passion Play began in 1634. It is known for woodcarving and for the paintings on the fronts of its houses. Free time here for lunch and shopping.
