The Coaster or Oberammergau, Never Both, and a Secret Spot if the Bridge Queues
The alpine coaster used to be a private-tour extra. It is now on the public departures, which is what makes the morning of this day a choice rather than a schedule. You pick one: the coaster, a 20-minute chairlift up and a run back down the mountain, or an hour in Oberammergau. Not both. The two groups split at that point and meet again for lunch. Lunch is not included and happens at a local brewery, where you can order food and a beer. Bringing your own is also fine, and the guide will point you at the supermarket. The afternoon is the castle. Walk up or take the bus to Mary's Bridge, then the guided tour inside Neuschwanstein, with guaranteed skip-the-line entry. The castle ticket is not in the tour price and is paid to the guide, with a reduced rate for children. The day can also be done on a budget: Oberammergau costs nothing, lunch can be carried, and the castle can be skipped in favour of the grounds around it. Drop-off is at Isartor S-Bahn station at 7.30pm.

Munich
The tour starts and ends in Munich, near Isartor station.
Isartor
Back here around 7.30pm. Do not book flights or trains before 9pm, or dinner before 8pm: traffic can hold the bus up.
Romantic Road
Parts of the Romantic Road, driven first thing in the morning on the way to the castle, with the Alps and the Bavarian countryside either side.
Oberammergau
Guests are dropped here for a 60-minute break while the other group does the alpine coaster. It is one or the other: Oberammergau or the coaster, not both.
Alpine Coaster Oberammergau
The alternative drop-off is at the alpine coaster. The cost is not included in the tour price and is paid to the guide in cash, which keeps the queue moving. A 20-minute chairlift up, then the coaster back down, one of the longest runs in Europe. Again: the coaster or Oberammergau, not both.

Lunch at a working brewery with the castle in view. Orders are taken on the bus so the food is ready when the group arrives, which buys back time for the rest of the day. A short walk away there is a supermarket, if you would rather eat cheaply.
Schloss Hohenschwangau
The bus parks at the foot of Hohenschwangau. The castle is seen from the outside only: there is no time in the day to tour it.
Queen Mary's Bridge (Marienbrucke)
The guide gets the group to the bridge in time for your castle entry slot. In high season the queue for the bridge itself can be long enough that waiting would cost you that slot. The guide decides on the day, and when it happens the group goes instead to a spot the operator keeps for the purpose, where the photograph of the bridge and the castle still works.
Schloss Neuschwanstein
Neuschwanstein with a guide. Reach Mary's Bridge by shuttle bus or by the walk up through the forest, then the interior. Skip-the-line entry for the interior tour is arranged by the operator, at a cost per person that covers entry and all the mandatory booking fees. The guide handles the logistics and the payment on the bus, so none of it happens at a ticket window.

Isartor
The tour starts in central Munich, near the Hofbräuhaus, so it is easy to reach by bus, train or taxi.
