Rossio to the Castle First, Then Down Through Alfama, with a Coffee Stop
A guided walk that starts at Rossio and takes the climb early: the Castelo de São Jorge first, then Alfama on the way back down, which is the easier way round and the quieter time to be up there. The route runs through the old streets, the cobbles and the small cafés, and the views from the castle cover the whole city. There is a coffee break at a local café partway through. It suits people carrying a camera, since the light in Alfama is better in the second half of the walk, and it works for families and small groups who want to see the place without being marched around it.

The starting point is Praça Dom Pedro IV, better known as Rossio Square.
Alfama
After the castle the route goes down through the streets of Alfama, taking in the Portas do Sol and Santa Luzia viewpoints.
Praca do Comercio
The square is one of the last stops before the walk ends.
