Munich

A winter day trip from Munich to Neuschwanstein, with the ticket problem solved at the front end. Skip-the-line castle tickets are bought from the guide on the day, and they hold even when the castle is showing as sold out. That is the single reason this tour exists in the form it does: in season, the online allocation goes early, and people arrive to find there is nothing left to buy. The drive south crosses the Bavarian countryside to Hohenschwangau, where there is free time in the village before the castle and its history with the guide. Back in Munich there is a choice. The bus drops you at Isartor at 5:30 PM, or you stay on for an optional 90-minute walk: the river surfers, the Christmas markets, the sites of the Third Reich, the old town. The itinerary can change if the weather makes it.
