Two Churches 150 Years Apart, and a Castle Built on a 60-Metre Rock
A small-group day from Brașov, up to eight people, covering Peleș Castle, the Sinaia monastery, Bran Castle and the fortress at Râșnov, with the Carpathians alongside for most of the driving. Peleș is entered without queueing. The monastery follows, then Bran, and Râșnov last, for the view from the top. Lunch is at a traditional restaurant in Bran village, at your own expense, and the group is back in Brașov at 5 pm.

Peles Castle
First stop is Sinaia, once an aristocratic resort, and Peleș Castle, the summer residence of the Romanian royal family. It took King Carol I almost 40 years to build, and it is now one of the finest museums in the country.

On the road to Bran stands the Sinaia monastery, one of the oldest in Romania, with 300 years of history and a long connection to the royal family. It has two churches, built 150 years apart, which is the reason to stop.

Bran Castle
The road to Bran runs up the Prahova valley, past the mountain resorts of Predeal, Azuga and Bușteni, following the river. The best of it is at Bușteni, where the high peaks of the Bucegi come into view: Caraiman, Costila and Omu. Bran Castle, called Dracula's castle, stands at the mouth of the Bran-Rucar pass. It was built between 1377 and 1382 on a rock 60 metres high. Afterwards, lunch at a local restaurant: salads, soups, sarmale, meat and vegetables and the rest of the regional cooking. Food and drinks are at your own expense, and a traditional lunch can be arranged in Bran village.

Rasnov Citadel: Garden and Panoramic View
Râșnov fortress was built in the 13th century. It is the largest in Transylvania and among the best preserved in Romania, and from the top the whole of the Țara Bârsei plain is laid out below you.

Good to know
- Public transportation options are available nearby
- Travelers should have at least a moderate level of physical fitness
- Peles Castle is closed Mondays and Tuesdays. When is closed it can be seen only from outside. For more info please visit peles.ro.
- The upper part of RASNOV FORTRESS IS CLOSED for the moment, but we will still have some fun! We will take the CHOO CHOO TRAIN and visit the lower fortress, the panoramic platform, the outside walls and exterior court.
