Castles in the United Kingdom to Visit

Four ticket owners, no shared card, and 80 listings with a median of 85.23 EUR across Windsor, London and the Scottish Highlands.

This is the United Kingdom part of the catalogue: 80 listings across Windsor, London and the Scottish Highlands, priced from 16.29 to 1,302.58 EUR with a median of 85.23. The thing most visitors work out too late is that Britain has no national castle ticket. Four separate organisations run the four castles sold here, and they share nothing. The Royal Collection Trust holds Windsor and Buckingham Palace. Historic Royal Palaces, a charity with no connection to the first, holds the Tower of London. Historic Environment Scotland runs Urquhart Castle on Loch Ness. Eilean Donan belongs to a private family trust and sits outside every heritage pass in the country. A National Trust card is worth nothing at any of the four.

So how much does it cost to get into a British castle? There are two honest answers and they are far apart. The doors themselves are priced within five pounds of each other: 32 at Windsor, 33 at Buckingham Palace, 37 at the Tower of London, 14 at Urquhart and 13 at Eilean Donan, all booked ahead where booking ahead exists. What people actually spend is a different number, because most of what sells here is not a door. The median across the 80 British listings is 85.23 EUR, the first quartile 63.95, and sixteen listings pass 250 EUR. Not one of the 80 costs under 10 EUR, while thirteen listings elsewhere in this catalogue do. Britain has no tip-based walking tours in this vertical, and the cheapest thing on the British shelf costs 16.29 EUR.

The reviews concentrate in a way that is worth knowing before you read any rating. The United Kingdom holds 92,953 reviews and a weighted 4.618, slightly under the 4.653 the whole site averages. But a single product, an eleven-hour run from London to Stonehenge, Windsor and Bath at 84.19 EUR, carries 20,569 of those reviews on its own. That is 22 percent of everything Britain has to say in this catalogue, coming from one coach itinerary. When a British castle rating looks like a verdict on a castle, check first whether it is a verdict on a bus.

The catalogue splits three ways, and the split is commercial rather than geographic. At Windsor 22 of 24 listings run eight hours or longer. In London 14 of 40 are finished inside two hours. In the Highlands every product but one leaves from Inverness. Which of the three suits you is really a question about how much of the day you are willing to spend sitting down.
